What a difference a year makes...

One year ago today, I was writing this post letting you know that we had lost the little girl that we were preparing for, Sarah.
Ugh. Just reading it again brings me to tears. I can still feel the pain of the punch in the gut when I received that phone call.

But, at the end of the post I wrote:
"Today, it is hard to see through the pain. But, we will get through this time. We will come through it stronger than before.
Someday, we will see God's hand in this and He will show His faithfulness."

Oh, thank you Lord for bringing us through that pain stronger and more prepared to follow you. Thank you that we soon got to see your hand at work! In the depths of my pain, when I felt like you were not even there- you were moving and stirring the heart of Ben's birthmom to make an adoption plan for her child.

And just 5 short weeks later, I was holding my son in my arms.

That night, I was on a plane to NY with a broken heart.

One year later, I am eating Cheerios with this sweet boy and my heart is overflowing with gratitude.

What a difference a year makes.

  1. God is good.
I was just thinking the other day about last year's marriage retreat. I thought I might be pregnant, but wasn't sure. I didn't say anything to anyone besides Andy (of course) and our prayer partner couple. I saw how heartbroken you both were over losing Sarah, and I didn't want to hurt you guys. I went through the infertility thing and I knew that knowing about others having kiddos still can hurt even though you don't want to be hurt at the good news of others.
I remember praying for you that by this time this year, God would have healed your hearts, hopefully by bringing you a baby. I am so glad He answered everyone's prayers in such a wonderful way. God truly is amazing.

  2. What a great post!! I am so thankful you didn't have to wait, and that you were able to see God's plan revealed quickly after your heartbreak. God is good! And your son is adorable. I can't believe he is almost ONE already!!!

  3. We are praising God with you today for that sweet boy!

He is good in ALL things. Your faith has been such an encouragement to me and so many others, I know.

And, completely off topic -- are these boys going to plan that vacation, or what?!?

  4. I love this post! The goodness and sovereignty of the Lord is so evident in your story and it just brings tears to my eyes to think about it!
